Optimizing New Technology

I believe that is depending on the company, for some companies’ it is better if they adopt new technology because they might gain a competitive advantage over their competitors and become more successful. But on the other hand, for other companies it would be better if they stick to Dominant Design and just do component innovation because it will still incorporate a minimum of required set of key features that would be enough for their customers.

For Sony perhaps we can take the example of compact disc , please check out this url http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Disc

However it is not only Sony but Sony and Philips Consumer Electronics (Philips)

I think that in different industries these differences have been reflected in variuos variants; in one case it could have been strictly complimentary in the other case diametrically opposed and finally there could be mixes as well. It is hard to say that companies adopting and implementing and producing has led the company to success. Sometimes A Dominant Design

I have an example of Dominant Design that is diametrically opposed: QWERTY keyboard , there has been so many suggestions to change it but it is still in the use and in my opinion it will be always used. A Complimentary one I would bring the example of DVD which I think can be considered as Dominant design after years of fight for the Betamax and VHS. VHS become the tape standard but nowadays I think DVD CDs is the Standard.

I would also agree that Iphone is a dominant design and it has already passed the processes of improvement for become a standard in the industry, however the main feature it has is touch screen, which started its path since 1970s and in 2005 has become world-widely accepted and recognized. Apple's weaknesses is that the company is one man Show, meaning It is more of Steven Jobs rather than Internal Innovation system implemented in the company, but at the same time I do not see any other company on the horizon claiming to do a revolution in phone industry, however we see more and more companies trying to get into phone market such as Google with its Nexus , Skype with its Walkie, talkie, freebie
